Community Connection: Andre P LaSalle, CPASubmitted by Pelorus Financial Group on March 26th, 2017
By: Sarah Glink
Andre LaSalle is an accountant by trade. He is a lover of the arts and has dedicated his time and skills to foster positive growth in our community. We at Pelorus Financial have enjoyed a professional relationship with Andre from the time we opened our business and always appreciate his visits.
After graduating from Westminster College in 1993, Andre went on to work for Paul Demshar in Ashtabula. Paul was integral in solidifying Andre’s passion for accounting. After passing the CPA exam in 2000, Andre and his wife Clover dug in their roots and started a family. They now have two beautiful daughters, Amaris and Violet.
The LaSalle family has been connected with the Ashtabula Arts Center dance program for two generations now. Clover is a classically trained ballerina, something that she has passed on to both Amaris and Violet. Clover grew up through the dance program at the Ashtabula Arts Center. During the 1994 production of the Nutcracker, she “recruited” Andre to perform in the party scene. It was his participation in that production where he learned how important the arts are to the community. Clover has been heavily involved in the dance program, class instruction, and rehearsals for the past twenty years. Their daughters have now been involved for more than ten years of Nutcracker productions. Andre said, “It is an honor to serve on the Board of the Ashtabula Arts Center.” Andre has also been affiliated with the Ashtabula Rotary and Ashtabula County YMCA boards and currently serves as treasurer of the Lift Bridge Community Association.
With fourteen years of experience under his belt, Andre opened his accounting firm in the summer of 2007. The office is located at 1025 Bridge Street in the charming Ashtabula Harbor. Andre says of his practice, “We have some good people and feel very proud of the work we are able to do.” This work encompasses everything from providing entity selection, tax strategies and payroll services for small businesses, to preparing annual tax returns for families and individuals. Every new client’s prior year’s taxes are reviewed to check for mistakes. Andre loves to dig in and spend his time doing special projects, what he likes to call “reconstructive surgery.” We talked about how much he enjoys going to each client’s home or business. He went on to say, “I want each client to feel like they’re the only client we have.”
When we spoke, Andre was kind enough to offer some professional advice:
- Seek help and advice from professionals you trust.
- Keep personal and business expenses separate.
- Work with a manageable personal budget and a manageable business budget.
- Have an entity selection review every few years, if your business is profitable and making money.
- Make sure you are taking advantage of the various types of pensions and tax deductions that may be available to you.
